Greetings, saints.
I thank you for your encouraging e-mails.
I have been in prayer and reading the Word, and have come across some things that are worthy of discussion.
Let us begin.
In the A.M.E. Church, we say that the "water doesn't save you", in referencing the need for baptism to achieve salvation.
Now, I came from a different denomination that believed in the Acts 2:38 "Repent AND be baptized". When you accept Jesus as your personal savior in this denomination, you are then baptized. The caveat is that you fully understood the gravity of what you were doing by coming forward to be baptized.
In the middle, there are denominations that allow you to become saved by praying a prayer and then be baptized as an outward symbol.
Lo and Behold!
I read to you from 1 Peter 3:20-22 (NIV):
"The water symbolizes BAPTISM that NOW SAVES YOU ALSO....the PLEDGE OF A GOOD CONSCIENCE TOWARD GOD...It (BAPTISM) SAVES YOU BY THE RESURRECTION of Jesus Christ."
Am I reading this correctly? Your thoughts please. |
